- VARIATION: blocks adjust to – diverse housing type and price, social demographic and cohesion, public-private gradient, and mediation of adjacent traffic impact.
- CONFIGURATION: block perimeters define street edge with lots enfronting streets; block interiors run from minimal /utilitarian to elaborated courts.
- ADAPTATION: change in economy, housing or retail market, age of building, undermines viability of places – requires traditional townscape retrofit.
